The Coming Storm

By Novid Shaid, 2011

There’s a storm brewing

beyond the horizon.

Momentary flashes of electrical impulses

flicker far ahead

like a Divine pyrotechnic display

with pulses of hypnotic lights

illuminating the earth.

From afar so mesmerising

full of promise and surprise.

But well all know

when it hangs above our heads

when the eye reigns supreme

our world could be ripped apart

and our lives may never be the same again,

until the malignant eye winks out once more

and the Sun and the warm breezes

breathe rejuvenating winds into the earth.

Should we run for cover and secure our world?

Or face, like Lear, the full fury of the storm?

Or join our brothers in repelling its thunder

and deflecting the wrath of its burning eye?

I guess it’s better just to live our truth,

shaking off the haze of speculation

exiting the tunnels of vain anticipation

and when the eye overlooks our darkened skies

penetrate beyond its reach, right through the ether

and gaze into the heavenly mirrors

heeding the reflections.
